Many deviants around here seem to think that if they have seen a type of work before then that means it's not original. So by that reasoning, if someone comes up with the weirdest thing in the world, than that makes him original and therefore better than the one that drew something that has been done before.
I'd like you to consider this for a while. Humanity has been around for thousands of years, almost anything an artist might think of drawing, has been drawn before. If an artist draws a portrait of a girl, that is so "unoriginal" you can literally find hundreds of thousands of such drawings.
Then should an artist stay away from drawing
So i almost always request critiques on my art, and i also get a lot of them too (thank you so much guys/galls) :D and i've noticed some critiquers have some misconceptions about critiques, their role, how to do it, etc.
Now i don't want to critique someone's critiuque, i rarely do that because people take it as being defensive about the art that is critiqued. So i'll just make this journal to hopefully inform/educate some of you about critiquing.

-If an artist requests critiques, and you have something to say about it then do use the critique widget to leave a critique. Don't critique in the comment's section though. I know some of y
By now everybody already knows that becoming a good artist doesn't come from talent alone. On contrary; talent is a myth. Like the famous quote goes: "Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration". Meaning so much that even with a good idea and a bright mind, you still have to work your ass off in order to achieve something. While this makes mad skills available for basically everybody, I still hear many people complain about practice being a rather boring thing, or about them practicing a lot but still getting nowhere.
So I thought; Oh well... Why no article about practice?
Conscious vs unconscious practiceFirst of all lets divide practice
Congratulations to DamaiMikaz (https://www.deviantart.com/damaimikaz) for receiving seniority on July 7th, 2014! :squee:
What is it like to be a part of the senior hut? How do you feel about receiving the Medal? How did you receive the news?"I initially thought I had a lot of messages from seniors when I took a quick scroll through my message center. But my message center is usually a crowded mess, so I didn't think too much of it at the time. It took me a while to realize that it was actually my username that had the icon (I wasn't really awake yet). And when I did I initially assumed it was some kind of software bug in DeviantArt that somehow loaded the wrong icon with my name.
Hi folks! I realized in my most recent round of blogs that I've been a little quick to tell you all to put on your grown up panties, but this one is going to be a little different. Making art can be one of the most exhilarating things you'll ever do, but (and this is from personal experience also) 80% of the time you're going to fail. You'll spill your ink all over that glorious drawing. Oil from your hands will permanently stain only the portion of paper that was meant to remain a snowy white. Your computer's hard drive will crash or all your image files (all the WIPs especially) will get corrupted. You'll try something new and it just won't

PE: Creating your own Manga
Introduction
You have a great story, a bunch of characters and you want to create a manga. However, where do you start? Do you have it Left->Right or Right->Left? How should you publish it (*note: some publishers may have additional requirements/restrictions)?
The process is pretty much the same for any graphic progression such as comics.
Luckily, there are a great number of tutorials to help you on your way.
Storyboarding
A storyboard is a panel or series of panels which detail the sequence of significant events in a planned scene, i.e. a rough sketch coupled with some words to describe the actions in the scene.
At this point you'd
This journal is for artists who want to get more commissions, or want to open commissions and never had so they don't know how best to present their art, or even for those artists who took commissions before but would appreciate some more tips :D
There are a few pretty important things to consider before publicly announcing you're opening commissions:
1. payment method. The deviantart commission widget takes 20% of your profit, but then again more deviants have points so you're likely to get 20% more customers like that. But don't forget there are people who have paypal and don't feel like dealing with points so if you decide to open commi

Dear, deviantart fellow artists
It's difficult to feel motivated and stay focused on our goals all the time. But how to achieve what we want, how to not let procrastination stand in our way?
Here are some of my thoughts about the topic and I hope that they might be helpful.
1. Set goals
Think about your ultimate goal - what is that matters to you the most, what would make you incredibly happy and excited. Write that down and work your way through to it. It will be the reason, the reminder for you to look forward in those times, when you'll feel less motivated.
Try to write also weekly, monthly and yearly goals - be reasonable and realis
Dear, deviantart fellow artists
How to reach the happiness, how to have and maintain the positivity in our creative lives?
It's not an easy thing to stay positive all time. Trust me, I know... so here are some of my thoughts about the topic and I hope that they might be helpful.
1. Get away from negative people
Stay away from those who don't believe in you, who only show up in your lifes when they need something. As mentioned in the latest journal by DamaiMikaz (https://www.deviantart.com/damaimikaz) - some people are just pretending to be your friends in order to use you or your skills (don't let them). Be aware of those who are trustworthy and it's said that "person will be
Important update about widgets. by griffsnuff, journal
Important update about widgets.
From today I will no longer be using devaintARTs commission widgets, why? Because they will assume you are cashing out without you even doing so. Their system does not care about the truth, if you pay people with points, and they pay you later through a commission widget this will happen.
I have been in talk with helpdesk about this since they thought I was cashing out points (giving others points for free so they can give them back to me through a widget to get money for it)
And all I got was The system is designed to automatically flag suspicious transactions transferring points in this manner is not allowed. It is one of the many reasons
